Excerpts from Shakespeare performed by Ellen Terry, Matheson Lang, Russell Thorndike, Sybil Thorndike, Lilian Braithwaite, Joyce Carey, Florence Saunders, Hutin Britton, Gertrude Elliott, Ben Webster, and many others. The performance was directed by Ben Greet. Details are given of the "Shakespearean and Classical Plays" produced by him at the theatre "during the last 3 seasons". Note that the theatre was not yet officially known as the 'Old Vic', and is described as the "Royal Victoria Hall... The people's Opera, Play and Lecture House, Waterloo Road, S.E.; Lessee and Manager LILIAN BAYLIS"; and in 1917, Britain was still at war: "warning of a threatened air raid will be communicated by the Military Authorities to this Theatre"; Full of fascinating information and packed with historic names.
